10 Year High of Graduate Jobs

The number of graduate jobs available with top employers this summer is expected to reach a 10-year high, with university leavers likely to be earning more, according to research.
It suggests that more openings are likely to be available in industries such as accounting, banking, retail and the public sector, following deep cut-backs in recruitment at the start of the recession around seven years ago.
The 10th annual Graduate Market study, published by High Fliers research, also indicates that pay for young graduates is set to rise for the second year running.
But there are also warnings from employers that students with no previous work experience are unlikely to win places on graduate training programmes, amid signs that many vacancies are likely to be taken by those who have already done some kind of work for the firm.
The study is based on an analysis of graduate vacancies and starting salaries at Britain's 100 leading employers. Students graduating this summer after completing a three-year degree course are the first group to have paid £9,000 a year in tuition fees for their course.
A separate report has claimed that one in four workers is looking for a new job amid fresh evidence that most people would choose a different career if given another chance. A survey of 1,600 workers by employment group Reed suggested that work-life balance and job satisfaction were said the most important aspects of working life.
Almost three out of five said they would have chosen a different career if they were starting again, especially those with greater satisfaction and better pay prospects. More than a fifth have changed jobs more than seven times, mainly for more pay, better promotion prospects or because they were bored, with just 11pc staying with the same employer. Younger workers were more likely to be most concerned about pay and benefits.
