North West Number Two For Manufacturing M&A

The North West maintained its number two position for manufacturing M&A activity during 2014 when compared with other regions in England, according to the latest figures.

A report compiled by Experian, and analysed by law firm Irwin Mitchell, found that manufacturers in the region were the target of 92 deals during 2014. This compares with 99 in 2013.

Despite the fall 7 per cent fall, 92 deals represent the third highest annual number of transactions completed within the region since 2008.

The data also revealed that North West manufacturers were still the target of more deal activity than businesses based in Yorkshire, West Midlands, South East, East Midlands, East of England and the North East.

"The North West has performed consistently throughout in 2014 with almost 100 transactions completing during the period," said Andrea Cropley, corporate and commercial partner at Irwin Mitchell.

"This compares favourably with activity levels recorded in earlier years and also with other regions in the UK, and as private equity interest in the manufacturing sector across the UK looks to grow, I expect that deal flow within the sector will remain strong within the North West during 2015."
